Eczema Treatment in Delhi

Eczema — atopic dermatitis — makes skin dry, inflamed and intensely itchy, and the itch is often what wears people down most. It is not caused by poor hygiene and is not contagious. It cannot be cured, but with the right routine it can be controlled well enough that most days are comfortable ones. At Sama Hospital’s dermatology unit in South Delhi we treat both children and adults.
Symptoms
- Dry, itchy skin
- Red or darkened inflamed patches
- Oozing, crusting, or thickened skin from long-term scratching
- Disturbed sleep — often the most exhausting part
Moisturiser Is the Treatment, Not an Extra
This is the single most useful thing to understand about eczema. Emollients are the foundation of care — applied generously, often, and even when the skin looks clear. They repair the leaky skin barrier and reduce how often flares happen. Most treatment failures we see aren’t the wrong medicine; they’re moisturiser used too sparingly, or stopped as soon as things improved.
About Steroid Creams
Fear of steroid creams causes more harm than the creams do. Used correctly they are safe and effective, and under-treating a flare prolongs it. What matters is the right strength, on the right area, for the right length of time — which we set out clearly for you. Non-steroid options are available for delicate areas like the face.
Children and Eczema
Many children improve considerably as they grow, and a good proportion see eczema largely settle by their teens. Some keep sensitive skin into adulthood, and eczema can also start in adults. Either way, good control during childhood makes daily life far easier.
When to See a Dermatologist
- Not settling with routine care
- Disturbing sleep or daily life
- Returning again and again
- Signs of infection — weeping, yellow crusting, pain or fever
- Widespread or rapidly worsening
Cost of Eczema Treatment in Delhi
Costs depend on the treatment your skin actually needs and how long it runs for. We explain this clearly at your first consultation. See our cost estimate page.
Why Choose Sama Hospital
Doctor-owned, NABH-accredited, in South Delhi since 1982, with the dermatologists named on this page. We spend time on the routine — because with eczema, how you use the treatment matters as much as which treatment you’re given.
Frequently Asked Questions
What causes eczema?
A weakened skin barrier plus an over-reactive immune response, often running in families with asthma and hay fever. It is not caused by poor hygiene and is not contagious.
Why is moisturiser so important?
Emollients are the foundation of care, not an optional extra — used generously and often, even when skin looks clear. Most treatment failures come from using too little, or stopping too soon.
Are steroid creams safe?
Used correctly, yes — and fear of them causes more harm than the creams. Under-treating a flare prolongs it. Right strength, right area, right duration. Non-steroid options exist for the face.
Will my child grow out of it?
Many improve considerably, and a good proportion largely settle by their teens. Some keep sensitive skin into adulthood. Good control meanwhile makes life much easier.
When should it be seen by a dermatologist?
If it isn’t settling, disturbs sleep, keeps returning, or shows signs of infection (weeping, yellow crusting, pain, fever). Widespread or fast-worsening eczema needs prompt assessment.
