Acne is common, treatable, and worth treating properly — because scarring is permanent and preventable. It is not caused by being unclean, and scrubbing harder makes it worse. At Sama Hospital’s dermatology unit in South Delhi we treat acne medically, with realistic timelines and no miracle promises.
Diet plays a smaller role than most people believe. There is reasonable evidence linking high-glycaemic foods, and possibly skimmed milk, to acne in some people — but chocolate and oily food are not the villains they’re made out to be. Diet is worth some attention, but it won’t clear moderate or severe acne on its own, and blaming food often delays treatment that would actually work.
Most treatments need six to eight weeks before real improvement shows, and skin can look slightly worse in the first few weeks before it turns. That’s normal, not failure. Stopping early is the commonest reason treatment seems not to work.
Existing scars can be improved, though rarely erased completely. The honest position: preventing scars by treating active acne properly beats treating scars later. Dark marks left after spots usually fade over months by themselves. True indented scarring is assessed separately, once the active acne is controlled.
Costs depend on the treatment your skin needs and how long the course runs. We explain this clearly at your first consultation. See our cost estimate page.

Blocked follicles, bacteria and inflammation, driven by hormones — which is why it’s common in teenage years and around the menstrual cycle. Not caused by being unclean; scrubbing makes it worse.
Less than most believe. Some evidence for high-glycaemic foods and possibly skimmed milk; chocolate and oily food are largely unfairly blamed. Diet alone won’t clear moderate or severe acne.
If OTC products haven’t worked in a couple of months, if you have deep painful nodules, if it’s scarring, or if it’s affecting your mood. Scarring is permanent and preventable.

Improved, rarely erased. Preventing them by treating active acne is far more effective. Dark marks usually fade over months; indented scarring is assessed once acne is controlled.
